Italian auteur Minervini takes an intimate look at lives in the American South amid the Black Lives Matter movement. Two brothers, 14 and 9, whose mother preaches the need for education over violence; a middle-aged woman struggling to keep her ill-fated business afloat; the New Black Panther Party for Self Defense seeking justice for the deaths of black men at the hands of white police officers; and a Mardi Gras Indian tribe keeping traditions alive create this quilt of transcendence, hope, outrage and mystery.
